The full picture of Itapema
Itapema is a city in rapid growth, and that shows in healthcare: it still doesn't have big private hospitals, so anything really serious —a hospital stay, a surgery— gets handled in Balneário Camboriú or Itajaí, which are a stone's throw away. What we do have, and it's pretty good, is the Hospital Dia Revitalite for everyday care (although, as the name says, it only opens during the day) and plenty of private clinics where you get specialists fast, some even with 24-hour service.
Labs for exams? That we do have, no scares. There's even solid imaging, and they take plans. God! How I wish I'd known that earlier: once I had to get a CT scan and had to pay 900 reais in cash, live and direct, haha.
The key thing: you absolutely must have a serious plan, ok? It doesn't matter if the city invites you to experiment: always remember you can end up paying more than a thousand reais for a swollen finger.

So, which plan do you buy?
It depends on you: on your budget and on how willing you are to travel. If you can move to Balneário Camboriú or Itajaí without drama, more doors open up; if you want to solve as much as possible right here, you pay for that convenience. Below I lay out the different options in summary.

A local plan: Itapema Saúde
WATCH OUT with Itapema Saúde: it's a plan that only works here, and it's not on par with the rest. It's not an alternative, though it can be a complement. It costs pennies compared to the rest: just 63 reais for 4 people (in 2026). For a lot of people it solves their life.
Combined with the Hospital Dia Revitalite it's David Copperfield when it comes to saving time:
- It gets you out of the SUS queues on the bad days.
- Fast care and cheap appointments, nothing like private-clinic prices.
- Construction companies use it, for example, to insure their workers.
It's also worth using alongside your Hapvida. I used it combined and it works; just be aware that you're going to have to travel to BC or Itajaí. No way around it. Even for lab tests.
Which one suits you?
There's no single answer. If you travel often, a national plan or Unimed, no doubt. If you're after value for money and don't mind traveling to BC or Itajaí, Clinipam/Hapvida together with Itapema Saúde. The details of each are on their own page: go in, review and compare calmly.
